UMRCC visits Itasca

Summary

The UMRCC technical sections met at Itasca State Park in September 2022. Hosted by the MNDNR, approximately 75 members joined at the headwaters of the Mississippi River for three days of discussions, presentations and fellowship. The week included a number of interested presentations from the technical sections including Lake Sturgeon restoration efforts in Missouri, waterfowl research from Minnesota, presentations from local experts on wild rice and the it's role in the history and people of the area. Field trips included a guided hike to the headwaters and a boat tour on the Chester Charles II (see image below). Consistent with past fall meetings, the real work was accomplished around the campfire each night. I'd like to thank the staff of the MNDNR (Janine Kohn, Kevin Stauffer and others) for their hard work in preparing a great meeting and the lovely staff of the University of Minnesota Itasca Biological Station for their hospitality.
